The XM-18 3in Skinny edition grew from my wanting a even slimmer profile to the regular 3in XM-18 but without giving up robust usability. A complete redesign of the 3in XM-18 was performed which transformed the folder into what I termed a "heavy" linerlock. Which means that even though it is a linerlock and not a framelock like the regular 3in XM-18 the liner lock is a full .070 thick, giving you the comfort of a solid blade lock like you always come to expect from a Hinderer Knives folding knife.
